Supervision of Midwives
The programme consists of 2 modules: the principles of statutory supervision of midwives; leading and advancing the practice of the supervision of midwives; time is also required for practice development experiences and includes: supervisory visits, including independent midwives, private sector institutions, other NHS Trusts, GP practices, Birth Centres; supervisory reviews; developing strategies for continuing professional development; planning study leave; identifying needs; organising in-service training; participation in audit, an LSA audit of supervision of midwives and standard setting; attendance at either local supervisor of midwives meetings or LSA officers meetings or conferences; attendance at maternity service liaison committees, PCTs and PALS (or similar); attendance at one NMC professional conduct hearing is desirable.
Good Honours degree or equivalent professional development; applicants also need to meet the nursing and midwifery council's statutory requirements for the nomination of midwives, as a supervisor of midwives; 3 years of practice experience as a midwife; applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.0.
