Midwifery and Women's Health

The course reflects the contemporary education and practice requirements of the midwifery profession. It incorporates growing public awareness of the importance of health promotion and psychosocial well-being as well as changes to the pre-registration preparation of midwives

Entry requirements

Current NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) Registration as a practising Midwife. Normally a 1st degree in a related subject or evidence of relevant professional practice and 60 level 3 credits to include a research methods module. Working in or have regular access to a relevant practice environment / client group.

Course modules

Modules include: advanced decision making in contemporary healthcare; advanced decision making health and social care; coaching skills for leading; complex social issues in maternity care; developing a coaching culture; developing and managing people in health and social care; developing and managing people in healthcare; dissertation; empowering midwives in normal midwifery practice; high dependency midwifery care; integrating research with professional practice; nutritional wellbeing for pregnancy; physical examination of the health newborn; preparation for mentorship; the theory and practice of contraception within sexual health care.
