Health and Medical Education

This programme has been developed in response to an evolving NHS climate where clinicians will be providing education and support within the working environment; it is suitable for medical doctors with an interest in academic medicine and education, nurse trainers/tutors, and other health and social care professionals who are interested in developing their educational expertise.

Entry requirements

A 1st degree in a related discipline, although applicants with evidence of equivalent professional/academic experience will be considered. Normally 2 years full time (or equivalent) experience within a relevant field of practice. Registration with the appropriate professional body. The English language requirement for this programme is, IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 580 or equivalent. The appropriate visa status to study in the UK.

Course modules

Modules include: Health and medical education in the workplace; healthcare disciplines project. Optional modules: business skills for clinicians; ethics and law at the beginning and end of life; evidence based practice - distance learning; expert witness; health and medical education in the workplace; health and medical simulation - design and delivery; healthcare disciplines project; issues in health law and ethics; leadership in practice; legal and ethical issues in healthcare; medical emergencies and human error- managing risk, improving services; recognition & management of skin lesions; western medical acupunture in clinical practice; work based learning in health and medical practice; work based learning in health and medical practice: an international perspective; work based study:professional issues related to healthcare practice.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include case study presentations, poster presentations and written assignments.
