Mental Health Practice and Psychiatric Practice

This programme offers a wide variety of teaching and learning methods which will help you develop as a clinician in mental health practice. You can expect to gain significant opportunities in continuing professional development by choosing to study modules relevant to the field you work in which can also be taken as short courses.

Entry requirements

Applicants require: Registration with a relevant professional body (e.g. HPC, NMC, GSCC, CMC(GP)); plus a 1st degree in a related discipline; plus 2 years' full-time (or equivalent) experience within a relevant field; plus employment in, or access to, an appropriate area of mental health practice during study period; if English is not the first language, an IELTS score of 6.5, or equivalent, is required.

Course modules

Modules include: Contemporary mental health interventions; recovery and social inclusion: partnerships in mental health care; service improvement; evidence-based practice class based/blended learning; optional and common interest modules are: foundation skills in practice; principles of psychopharmacology and neurosciences; developing skills and competence in psychiatric, mental health practice; approaches and organisation of specialist mental health service delivery; history of psychiatry; foundations in cognitive behaviour therapy skills.
