Economics

This course is ideal if you aspire to a career in economics, business or finance. It will also help prepare you for careers in management, arts and the public sector, government, the media, charities and non-governmental organisations or any other sector which requires advanced economic analysis skills. Throughout your course, we aspire to help you develop your knowledge and understanding of core economic theories and principles and apply these to policy making and resource allocation scenarios. You will have the opportunity to develop your analytical skills through the study of econometrics and deepen your understanding of the global economy.

Entry requirements

An undergraduate degree is required (normally a 2.2 or above or its international equivalent). It is not necessary to have a 1st degree in economics, business economics or financial economics. However, through the application process students must demonstrate prior study at Bachelors level of either: economics or a quantitative subject (e.g. mathematics, statistics, accountancy, finance). As many of the concepts and analyses on this course involve mathematical techniques students are expected to have a working knowledge of calculus and should know the basics of vectors and matrices, probability and statistics.

Course modules

Modules include: Macroeconomics; microeconomics; economic statistics; econometrics; international economics; postgraduate research paper. 3 options from: Economics of financial markets; development economics; principles of sustainability; applied banking and financial modelling; strategic management; international business environment; globalisation and financial crisis.
