Design Integration and Building Information Modelling
This course focuses on developing skills and competences to enable students to effectively manage and maximize benefits from design integration and the use of BIM technology in projects, building from state of the art research and leading edge practice. Students develop knowledge on integrated processes, BIM and how it can be best deployed, managed and maintained throughout the whole project lifecycle. A feature of this programmed is the multidisciplinary approach adopted, in which students from diverse construction related backgrounds will study together to understand the project complexity and the information needs of diverse project stakeholders. Also, the programme focuses on process improvement through lean design and construction, with the use of supporting BIM tools.
A 2.2 Honours degree or above in an appropriate subject or equivalent. Alternative qualifications and/or significant experience may be accepted, subject to approval. International students must provide evidence of proficiency in English. If below the required level students may be able to take 1 of the pre-sessional English courses. International students with qualifications in 'creative' or �practice' subjects should submit a portfolio of work with their application. All suitably qualified applicants are normally interviewed or considered for admittance under alternative arrangements. Interview will be by portfolio of practice based and/or theoretical work and a statement of intent.
Core modules: BIM at the industry level: needs and strategies; BIM at the project level: collaborative approaches; lean and BIM in construction projects; research methods; major project. Optional: advanced construction and building analysis; or construction project management: planning and control.
Assessment is based on combination of written reports, presentations and examinations.
