Advanced Project Management in Construction

This course focuses on developing and applying advanced project management strategies needed to plan, organise and co-ordinate the integrated delivery of complex projects in evolving global environments. This course is aimed at industry professionals seeking to acquire such advanced, strategic level skills as project managers in the global construction industry who are wishing to progress towards managerial positions. To take up such roles you would need to be able to apply knowledge to optimise and solve complex issues in a very dynamic industry, with a clear understanding of business implications. This course aims to enable the understanding of process and production management issues, including planning and control approaches, the management of resources, and how information technology can be applied to support successful project outcomes. The advanced level nature of the course also aims to prepare you for further research in the field, either within academia or for consultant organisations, providing the skills and competencies necessary for a project manager to successfully deliver global projects.

Entry requirements

A 2.2 Honours degree or above in an appropriate subject or equivalent. Alternative qualifications and/or significant experience may be accepted, subject to approval. For applicants whose 1st language or language of instruction is not English you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, will be considered acceptable, or equivalent. International students with qualifications in 'creative' or 'practice' subjects should submit a portfolio of work with their application.

Course modules

Core modules: Lean and building information modelling in construction projects; advanced procurement in construction; construction project management (planning and control); research methods; major project. Optional modules (choose 1 from): Advanced construction and building analysis; building information modelling at the project level (collaborative approaches).

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed by a combination of written reports, presentations and examinations.
