Action Research for Education

If you are currently working within the field of education, training or youth work and looking to progress your skills, specifically focusing on research and evaluation, then this course could be for you. You will develop your understanding of how action research leads to improvements in learning and awareness of how effective personal development can contribute to raising standards within teaching/training professions and ultimately on learner achievements. The course is tailored around you; choose from a range of options to match your role, experience or organisation to help you progress as an informed, reflective and inspirational practitioner. This course combines making a difference in your particular teaching/training context with learning about how to undertake research in a systematic and rigours manner. You will also have access to our extensive professional and academic network which feeds directly into course design and delivery and to excellent facilities and specialist equipment. You will be supported by our academic skills tutor to help develop your ability to write effectively at Master's level.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree or professional equivalent, or professional relevant experience. Experience of teaching, training or working in a relevant organisation in education or in a related sector. You also need to be in a work role which relates to learning/training.

Course modules

Core modules: Introduction to action research in teaching and learning; dissertation. Optional modules include: Exploring teaching and learning; International approaches to early childhood education; developing effective leadership; managing learning and development in organisations; e-tutoring; mentoring and coaching; methods of enquiry; understanding e-learning.

Assessment methods

The course is assessed through course work: there are no timed tests or exams. The assessment on the course allows you to demonstrate your practical knowledge and skills alongside developing your critical and theoretical understanding of the subject. The assessment builds on your particular interests and context and is likely to have outcomes that will be of benefit to your professional life and to your employer. You will be provided with guidance to help you develop your assignment work.
