Secondary Business Education

Successful completion leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests. The citizenship enhancement option encourages teaching at all levels from 11-16 and aspects include legal and human rights and responsibilities and the significance of the media. The wider issues of global responsibility and interdependence are integral to the study of business education. The Postgraduate Certificate includes modules at Master�s level which may count towards a further Master�s award. The University agrees the award whilst students train.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree of 2.2 or above with at least 50% content in economics or business studies. A GCSE grade C pass or equivalent in mathematics and English. The ability to speak, read and write well in English. A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and medical check. There is a charge (currently �44). Applicants need not do anything before applying. Applicants must have passed skills tests in literacy and numeracy before starting initial teacher training course. Please note applicants must have registered for the tests before the University offers an interview. All conditions must be met by 31 August 2015 (please allow extra time for Skills Test retakes).

Course modules

Modules include: The practice of teaching (induction); specialist subject development; the practice of teaching (application); the practice of teaching (consolidation); special educational needs and inclusion; curriculum development.

Assessment methods

There are no formal examinations but there may be some classroom knowledge activities. Students complete 2 written assignments at Master's level, 3 personal reports, and a personal subject audit. These cover both the subject and professional development as a teacher. Students also produce evidence to support the completion of all the QTS standards.
