University of Hull
Extension Course (Modern Languages: French)
Places for trainees in Spanish and German who are unable to offer French or German to at least beginners are limited; however, the University runs a 15 week intensive French extension course prior to the PGCE on behalf of the Teaching Agency (TA); this enables single linguists in German and Spanish to learn French and provides assistance with course fees and a weekly bursary; this course is a vital way for graduate linguists with little or no French to undertake an intensive course prior to beginning Initial Teacher Education; this enables graduate linguists to teach French to children in the secondary phase to Key Stage 3 and beyond and therefore significantly increases their employment potential; successful completion of this course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.
Degree in modern language other than French, and GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English language and mathematics.
