Education, Inclusion and Special Needs
This specialist education pathway seeks to investigate the complexities around the concept of inclusion. Study is focused on those who might experience marginalisation in society, particularly in educational contexts. There is a strong emphasis on finding ways to develop inclusive curricula to meet the needs of all learners including, for example: those defined as having special educational needs; travellers; those from challenging backgrounds; and ethnic minorities.
A 1st degree or equivalent in relevant subject or appropriate experience in a professional environment; competence in English is required for international students. For example: IELTS with 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each skill; previous study in English is accepted; candidates that do not meet the language requirements may take an English course at the University of Hull prior to entering the programme.
You study 3 core modules: Contemporary and critical perspectives in education; research methodologies in education; international and intercultural education. A specialist module: Developing educational leadership in a digitally connected world. Then complete a 60 credit dissertation which will allow you to identify and examine a topic of interest to you. You may leave the programme after stage 1 with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or after stage 2 with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education if you have earned sufficient credits.
