People are at the heart of every business, meaning that a high-performance human resources (HR) function is one of the keys to business success - with the ability to influence an organisation. Our research-active staff bring their internationally recognised expertise to the classroom, combining cutting-edge theory with live, real world case studies, drawing on strong practical experience. You will develop the ability to recognise and address ethical dilemmas and corporate social responsibility issues as you progress through the programme, understanding the contribution to organisational success made by effective human resource management. Successful candidates from the Business School can apply to the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD) for Chartered Membership, once certain criteria have been satisfied.

Entry requirements

This is a specialist programme, which aims to foster the development of a critically informed practitioner who is able to use both theoretical and practical skills to achieve HRM outcomes effectively. A minimum 2:2 Honours degree or equivalent, 1 academic reference and a good command of English. International applicants - Competence in English is required for international students. For example: IELTS with 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each skill; previous study in English is accepted; candidates that do not meet the language requirements may take an English course at the University of Hull prior to entering the programme.

Course modules

leading, managing and developing people;
HRM in context;
employment relations;
international HRM;
learning and development;

You will also study HR skills including finance and research methods, and undertake a dissertation.
