Project Management

Our MSc programme gives you both the social and technical skills demanded by employers, ensuring you are well equipped to meet the contemporary challenges in project management. You will explore and investigate real-life project case studies based on the expertise of our staff, and will apply methods to experiment with different approaches, including complexity and systems methods which are not usually offered on project management programmes. Our academic staff have substantial, world-class experience in a range of industry and public sector projects, including the European Capital of Culture 2014 and Hull City of Culture 2017.

Entry requirements

The programme is designed for graduates from any discipline with a strong interest in project management. However, we do recommend that they have a basic knowledge and understanding of this area. Applicants should have a minumum 2:2 Honours degree or equivalent, one academic reference and a good command of English. International applicants - Competence in English is required for international students. For example: IELTS with 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each skill; previous study in English is accepted; candidates that do not meet the language requirements may take an English course at the University of Hull prior to entering the programme.

Course modules

You will study subjects such as:;
Project Management Body of Knowledge, APM and PRINCE methodologies;
systems thinking and practice methods, including systems dynamics modelling;
governance methods - how to be a leader in teams, manage sponsor and stakeholder relationships, create PMOs and portfolios plus how to use social network analysis ;
supply chain strategy and design - how to manage suppliers and contractors;
practice project analysis, planning, implementation, delivery and control;

As with many MSc programmes, you will also study professional skills and ethics, research methods and undertake a dissertation.
