Applied and Professional Ethics

This course provides people in business, the professions and the public and 3rd sectors with skills and knowledge that can help them engage with ethical issues in their working lives. The course is taught entirely online, making it particularly appropriate for those in full-time employment or resident overseas who wish to gain a qualification from a leading university without interrupting their career. The syllabus guides students with little or no experience of studying ethics to the point where they are able to produce a substantial dissertation project. We explore a wide range of topics in applied and professional ethics, including: Codes of conduct, whistleblowing and integrity; leadership ethics; privacy and confidentiality; consent and contracts; justice; environmental ethics; business ethics. Throughout the course you will discuss case studies drawn from a range of professional backgrounds. The professional issues module is also available as a short course.

Entry requirements

Candidates should normally have an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification. Where a candidate is not a graduate, relevant professional experience is taken into account. The key attributes sought are a willingness and ability to think through problems in a reasoned and independent way.
