Theatre and Global Development

The course is jointly run by The Workshop Theatre and the Centre for Global Development. It is aimed primarily at either those working in community-based theatre and wishing to explore discourses of development or development practitioners seeking to investigate how the arts can be used as a tool for development. 3 core modules are offered, 2 in The Workshop Theatre and 1 in the Centre for Global Development. Students are invited to choose a 4th module in development studies to reflect their primary interests and aims. There are opportunities for practical work and for creating links with professional workers in the field.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent in theatre or development studies or equivalent professional experience; if English is not the applicant's 1st language they require IELTS 6.5 with no grade below 6.0.

Course modules

You will study 3 core modules plus 1 optional module.

Assessment methods

Assessment for the majority of modules is by 4000-word essay submitted at the end of the semester in which it is taught. The research project/dissertation is 12000 to 15000 words. For most seminars you will also be required to submit an unassessed essay and give seminar presentations which may include practical work. The research project is submitted at the end of the course in September.
