The course develops the necessary educational understanding, analytical skills and leadership qualities for success in education through the raising of pupils' achievement and school improvement; the size of the course, the wide range of modules available and the flexible modular structure permit teachers to develop these requirements in all curriculum areas, at all levels and in all phases.

Entry requirements

Normally a 1st degree and at least 2 years' experience in the field of education; other applicants with appropriate experience will be considered on an individual basis.

1 compulsory module - critical study; plus optional modules from: Introduction to educational research methods and approaches to data collection; citizenship education and cultural diversity; citizenship education: principles and practice; directed study in education 1; science education: teaching and learning; science education: purposes, policy and professional development; issues in information communications technology and education; learning with virtual worlds; design and evaluation of web-based learning environments; e-learning: principles and practices; developing personal practical knowledge of english language teaching; the practice of supporting language teacher learning; psychology and the education of adults; educational leadership and management in the professions; lifelong learning: being a learner, being a teacher; lifelong learning in changing contexts; researching lifelong learning and post-compulsory education and training; developing practice in primary schools; international educational management: developing leadership; international educational management: developing people for school improvement; international educational management: developing financial and material resources; international educational management: effective development of policies and plans for change; visual methods in social science; the 14-19 curriculum; assessment in education; mathematics: curriculum and assessment; learning and teaching mathematics; trends in research in mathematics education; special educational needs: principles and practice; special educational needs: international perspectives; developmental disorders i: dyslexia and developmental coordination disorder; developmental disorders ii: attention deficit disorder and autistic spectrum disorder; teaching children with learning difficulties; teaching children with learning difficulties; teaching children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties; grammar learning and teaching; syllabus design and development for teachers of English to speakers of other languages (TESOL); evaluation and testing for TESOL; teacher education for TESOL; materials development for tesol; classroom discourse; language learning and teaching with information communications technology - online; teaching languages to young learners.
