University of Leeds
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Studies
This programme is designed for people that wish to follow an MA programme in the field of TESOL, but have very little, or no experience, of teaching; it provides an excellent first step towards a career in TESOL, and gives students the essential skills and knowledge necessary to start a teaching career; the programme examines the 2 essential elements in language teaching: the study of language itself, and the processes of learning and teaching language, including the 4r skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing; students also explore the practical aspects of managing a language-learning classroom, and have the opportunity to specialise in a specific area of TESOL, such as grammar and vocabulary teaching, materials analysis, young learners, or language assessment.
This programme requires a Bachelor degree or equivalent professional qualification; the course is for students that do not have the required 2 years relevant experience needed for our other MA TESOL programmes. Overseas candidates must meet specific requirements for English language which are kept under review.
Core modules: Critical study; learning and teaching in TESOL; investigating language for TESOL; developing personal practical knowledge of English language teaching; optional modules include: learning and teaching vocabulary; grammar, learning and teaching; assessing language learning; materials development for TESOL; language learning and teaching with information communication technology (online); teaching languages to young learners; global citizenship in the UK primary education system.
Some Scholarships available for both UK/EU and International Students.
