This online programme is designed for people currently using information communication technology (ICT) in educational settings, such as teachers, trainers, user support staff, educational software developers, librarians and managerial staff; the programme analyses the relationship between ICT and education, and examines how ICT can support learning across a range of educational settings; the programme analyses the theoretical, professional and practical applications of ICT, and critically evaluates research and development in ICT and education, enabling students to relate the design and evaluation of materials to a range of learning approaches and practices.

Entry requirements

This programme requires a good 1st degree in a relevant discipline; applicants will also need 2 years relevant postgraduate professional experience, although we do consider alternative qualifications and professional experience in exceptional circumstances; candidates will need basic computer skills (internet, e-mail, word processing) and the ability to use computers routinely in their academic work.

Core modules: Critical study in education; learning with virtual worlds; issues in ICT and education; 1-2 optional modules: design and evaluation of web-based learning environments; e-learning: principles and practices; language learning and teaching with ICT - online; 1 optional module: EAL, language diversity and inclusion: investigating policy and pedagogy; directed study in education 1; getting started: research questions and approaches in education; philosophical underpinning of educational research; science education: curriculum and professional development; international educational management: developing staff for institutional improvement; international educational management: developing financial and material resources; the 14-19 curriculum; developmental disorders ii: attention deficit disorder and autistic spectrum disorder; teaching children with learning difficulties; developmental disorders in the early years; learning and teaching vocabulary; grammar learning and teaching; learning and language in primary classrooms; teacher education for TESOL; the TESOL curriculum and TESOL change; assessing language learning; materials development for TESOL.
