Social Research

The course provides in-depth academic training in social research and covers a wide range of social research philosophies, strategies, techniques and issues, and is based on the integration of theory and practice.

Entry requirements

Honours degree (upper 2nd Class or 1st Class) in a social science discipline, or an equivalent professional qualification; relevant experience is taken into account where appropriate; candidates who have narrowly missed securing an upper 2nd result may be considered on their merits.

Course modules

Core modules: Research strategy and design; quantitative research methods; qualitative research methods; research dissertation. Optional modules: Criminal justice policies, perspectives and research; issues in social policy analysis and research; contemporary social thought; liquid sociology; evaluation research; debates on disability theory and research.
