The course provides in-depth academic training in social research and covers a wide range of social research philosophies, strategies, techniques and issues, and is based on the integration of theory and practice.
Honours degree (upper 2nd class or 1st class) in a social science discipline, or an equivalent professional qualification; relevant experience is taken into account where appropriate; candidates who have narrowly missed securing an upper 2nd result may be considered on their merits.
Core modules: Research strategy and design; quantitative research methods; qualitative research methods; research dissertation; optional modules; criminal justice policies, perspectives and research; issues in social policy analysis and research; contemporary social thought; liquid sociology; evaluation research; debates on disability theory and research.
