Fire and Explosion Engineering

This course offers students advanced training in the field of fire and explosion engineering; it suits those wishing to embark on a new career or those already in the field who wish to further develop their knowledge and formalise their credentials; the course equips students with the knowledge and ability to contribute to the formulation of appropriate prevention and mitigation strategies, in the detailed design of protection systems against both hazards and in the analysis and investigation of incidents on the basis of sound engineering and scientific principles.

Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree with a 2.2 (Honours) in an engineering, physical science or mathematics discipline. If you are not a graduate, we may still consider your application if you have sufficient relevant professional experience or qualifications. We accept a range of international equivalent qualifications.

Course modules

Core modules: Research project; fire safety design short course and project; fire dynamics and modelling; explosion prediction and mitigation. Optional modules (choose 2): Fire risk assessment and management (by e-learning); fire and explosion investigation; fire and safety law.
