Advanced Computer Science

This course provides a thorough introduction to advanced topics in computer science, including emerging approaches to human interaction with computational systems, novel architectures such as clouds and the rigourous engineering needed, to develop cutting-edge applications such as large-scale data mining and social networks.

Entry requirements

A degree equivalent to a UK upper 2nd Class Honours (2.1) degree or higher in computing or a related discipline with a significant computing component. You are expected to have programming competence, some prior systems development experience and knowledge of data structures and algorithms. Relevant work experience will also be taken into consideration.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Research project; systems programming; algorithms. Optional modules (choose 6): Bio-inspired computing; advanced distributed systems; mobile application development; knowledge representation and machine learning; data mining and text analytics; cloud computing; semantic technologies and applications; image analysis; scientific visualisation; scheduling; scientific computation; graphic theory: structure and algorithms.
