Mechanical Engineering

Globally renowned for our teaching and research, the School of Mechanical Engineering is one of the UK's leading mechanical engineering schools. Research in the School of Mechanical Engineering is organised into the three interdisciplinary research institutes shown below: Institute of Design, Robotics and Optimisation; Institute of Functional Surfaces; Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering; Institute of Thermofluids.

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to hold a 1st or upper 2nd Class Honours degree (or equivalent from an overseas university), or a good performance in a Master's level course.

Course modules

Research degrees are available in the following areas: Advanced mechatronic and robotic devices; designing sustainable systems; thermofluids and combustion; engineering fluids and micro/nano-fluidics; biomimetics and bioinspiration; engineering optics; joint replacement and substitution; tissue re-engineering; functional spinal interventions.
