This course provides students with a broad coverage in the rapidly expanding field of medical engineering whilst at the same time allowing a degree of specialisation through the provision of optional material; it is aimed at a range of personnel involved in medical engineering including, engineers, surgeons, sales and marketing staff and regulatory personnel, who wish to pursue a career in this sector or are already in employment; particular emphasis is placed on the multidisciplinary nature of medical engineering and the current shift towards the interface between engineering and the life sciences.
Applicants are required to hold a 1st or upper 2nd Class Honours degree (or equivalent from an overseas university), or a good performance in a Master's level course.
Introductory medical device engineering; research methods; biomedical engineering simulation; biomaterials; spinal biomechanics and instrumentation; computational and experimental methods, biotribology, functional joint replacement technology; tissue engineering; research project.
