The Faculty of Environment is a world-leader in responding to global challenges with over 400 staff actively engaged in research and teaching across a wide range of topics, covering earth sciences, environmental science and sustainability, human and physical geography and transport planning.

Our integrated programmes of study offer exciting opportunities to work alongside research leaders and to develop the skills and knowledge required by future decision-makers, industry leaders and informed global citizens.

School of Earth and Environment

We are one of just a few universities that has brought you the complete range of disciplines from geology and geophysics, environmental science, meteorology and climate science, to environmental social science together under one roof. This means you can interact with staff from one of the largest groups of Earth, environmental and social scientists in the UK and internationally who are at the forefront in tackling global issues such as climate change, energy, water and sustainable development.

School of Geography

Ranked in the top five Geography departments in the UK for research power in REF2014 and awarded an 'Excellent' grading by HEFCE for the quality of our teaching, we disseminate cutting edge knowledge and research on topics as diverse as tropical ecology, social inclusion and future cities. We offer an excellent student experience and achieved a 94% satisfaction rating in the 2017 National Student Survey results (NSS).

Institute for Transport Studies

If you are looking for a smart route to a stimulating career in a rapidly expanding industry helping to change lives for the better, the Institute for Transport Studies will take you there. You could go on to work anywhere in the world in either the private or the public sector. It might be a role in a leading transport management consultancy such as KPMG and Arup, or helping shape policy in a government department or international development agency.

As part of an industry-inspired, multi-disciplinary team, you will experience what it is like to tackle real world challenges in real world environments. Your background could be from engineering and physics through to social science and law. Depending on the route you take, you could learn how to make our transport infrastructure cleaner, safer and more connected, and design sustainable transport solutions. Improving the lives of your fellow citizens. Using methods and models developed in Leeds and deployed around the globe.
