The School of Geography welcomes applications from students wishing to do research degrees within or across the following research groups/clusters; Centre for Spatial Analysis and Policy (CSAP); cities and social justice; citizenship and belonging; ecology and global change; river basin processes and management; applicants can submit their own research proposal or choose to do research on areas/topics proposed by the School; the main areas of research cover; GIS (geographical information systems); population dynamics, migration, geodemographics, retailing, education and health (CSAP); consumption cultures and subcultures, challenging neo-liberal spaces, sustainable urban futures (cities and social justice); social identities, migration and transnationalism, development, prejudice, youth and disability (citizenship and belonging); tropical ecology, palaeoecology, earth system modelling (ecology and global change); catchment dynamics, biogeochemistry, peatlands, hydrology, geomorphology, freshwater and marine ecology (river basins processes and management).

Entry requirements

1st or upper 2nd Class Honours degree, or equivalent, in geography or a related subject. Applications will also be considered from individuals who do not have these qualifications, but have substantial employment or other experience providing a suitable foundation for a research degree. Students whose 1st language is not English are required to meet the University's minimum standards in English by achieving TOEFL score (internet-based test) of at least 92 overall with at least 21 in listening and reading, 22 in writing and 23 in speaking. IELTS (Academic) score of at least 6.5, with at least 6.0 in all components. PTE (Academic) score of 64, with at least 60 in all components.
