Physics and Business Management

This course is for graduates in Physics or related physical science subjects, with an aspiration to become senior managers in global companies or entrepreneurs, where understanding technology and the ability to manage innovation in business are key to success. It combines a core set of Business Management modules with a selected range of optional Physics modules, allowing the programme to be tailored to suit individual requirements. A unique feature of the programme is that the Physics and Business Management elements are integrated and not studied in isolation of each other. A large research project forms the capstone for the programme bringing together the business and scientific elements to solve a business-specified problem.The course is delivered using a mixture of learning and teaching styles. Problem based learning and project work allow you to gain hands-on experience, investigating and applying topics from your lectures and seminars to real-life situations. You will also have access to specialist laboratories which are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The research project will be carried out in conjunction with industry and will bring together both business and scientific elements to solve a business-specified problem.

Entry requirements

A first or higher second class honours degree (2.1) or equivalent, in a physics or a related physical science. If English is not your first language, you will be required to produce evidence of a language qualification, such as; IELTS (6.5), IBT TOEFL (92 overall) or PTE (64 overall).

Course modules

Business modules: advanced management decision making; business analytics and decision science; effective decision making; entrepreneurship and enterprise creation; forecasting and advanced business analytics; managing for innovation; strategic management. Physics modules: advanced bio nanophysics; quantum information science and technology; quantum optics; quantum transport in nanostructures; soft matter physics; superconductivity; project.
