Molecular Medicine

The course is designed to give you an up-to-date, advanced understanding of the molecular basis of many diseases and their treatments. You will study how to apply molecular approaches to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of a range of cancers, chronic, autoimmune and genetic diseases. You will also carry out a research project in 1 of these areas within a research group at the forefront of the field.

Entry requirements

A BSc 1st or 2.1, or equivalent diploma in a relevant scientific discipline, i.e. biological sciences, though a natural sciences graduate will be considered. Subject to university regulations MBChB or BDS students who have completed 3 years of study would be eligible to intercalate. All students whose 1st language is not English must have an overall IELTS grade of 7.0 with at least 6.0 in writing and 6.5 in every other skill.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Research methods; research informatics and dissemination; preparing for the research project; research project. Optional modules: Human molecular genetics; immunity and disease; animal models of disease; stem cell biology (a genomics and systems biology approach to haematopoiesis); cancer biology and molecular oncology; introduction to genetic epidemiology.
