The course covers both the creative and technical aspects of design; students may undertake fundamental or applied research relating to a broad range of specialist areas; the research interests of staff include: technical textiles and nonwoven fabric technology, textile design, colour technology, dyeing and finishing, textile chemistry, sustainable design and green chemistry, design technology, fashion design, fashion theory, graphic design, sculpture and painting, design management, design theory, multi-media, animation and other areas of visual communication; students have access to facilities including laboratories for technical textiles and non wovens, high performance testing, colour design and technology, dyeing and finishing, colour and textile chemistry, and specialist studios for textile design, multi-media and animation, graphic design, sculpture and painting.

Entry requirements

A 1st or 2.1 Honours degree, or equivalent qualification, in a subject relevant to their proposed field of research; a degree at postgraduate level or relevant professional experience, and an approved research proposal; applicants with other relevant experience and or qualifications may be considered. Overseas applicants are required to have English language qualifications. The School of Design considers applicants who have, or are expected to achieve, IELTS 6.5, including 6.0 for each skills band.
