This programme develops your knowledge of textile processes and production, specialised uses of textile products and the textile industry as a whole. If your background is not in textiles, we will give you the background knowledge that you need to cover advanced topics. On top of the time you will spend studying research methods and gaining practical lab experience, you will have the chance to specialise in areas that suit your interests or career aspirations. You could focus on medical textiles, performance clothing, fibres and technical textiles, nonwoven materials technology, advanced coloration and finishing or managing the product development process. Because we focus on new and emerging applications for innovative products, you will be prepared for the future challenges of your chosen area.

Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree with a 2.2 Honours degree in a textile-related discipline, management, business studies or other related science, engineering or social science subject or equivalent qualification. IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any component.

Course modules

Core modules: Professional development and research methodology; laboratory practicals and case studies; research dissertation; textile and apparel materials and technology. Optional modules include: Performance clothing and intelligent textiles; fibres and technical textiles; nonwoven materials technology; advanced coloration and finishing technology; the management of design, innovation and product; development; textiles in medical devices and healthcare products.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed by a range of methods including essays and exams as well as practical and project work, reports, literature reviews and presentations.
