Areas of supervision expertise available in the School include: Performance history, theory and practice; composition; music psychology; music technology; computer music; popular and world musics; anthropology and ethnography; film music; opera studies; gender and queer theory; historical and contextual studies; aesthetics and critical theory.

Entry requirements

Applicants for both taught and research programmes should have a good Honours degree in a related subject (2.1 or equivalent); applicants for research programmes will normally be enrolled on or have completed a Master's degree; candidates with other relevant experience/qualifications may be considered and may be asked to attend for interview; further requirements may also be stipulated in individual cases.

Course modules

Core modules: Strategic management (LUBS); creative industries management (LUBS); introduction to musical scholarship (music); dissertation, or music management project (music). 2 optional LUBS modules from: Understanding organisations (LUBS); accounting for managers (LUBS); marketing for management (LUBS). 1 optional music module: Instrumental or vocal recital; composition studies; computer music studies; case studies in the applied psychology of music; individual project; applied performance studies; editing and archival studies; short dissertation; issues in contemporary musicology.
