Writing for Performance and Publication

The programme focuses on scriptwriting in its different forms, and you will have the option of specialising in writing for screen or theatre. But you will also be able to develop imaginative writing in other forms, especially prose fiction, or continue studying a variety of writing forms.

Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree with a 2.1 (Honours). If you do not have this qualification, your application may be considered if you can demonstrate significant relevant industry experience.

Course modules

Modules include: Research perspectives; story workshop; research project. optional modules: individual project; creative work; performance and collaborative enterprise; writing for theatre and radio; writing for film and television.

Assessment methods

Assessment is mostly on the basis of your creative writing, including theatre, screen and radio scripts and short prose stories you will develop in your modules. To encourage you to reflect on your practice, you will also write commentaries on your own work. Core modules may also use assessment methods such as essays and presentations to allow you to demonstrate your knowledge.
