Chemical Research (Green Chemistry)

Green Chemistry represents an overarching philosophy targeting issues in reducing waste and environmental sustainability within the chemical industries. On this MSc you will explore modern approaches to chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances; in other words, how technologically important chemistry can be carried out without harm to the environment. You will consider waste minimisation and atom efficiency, solvent selection, and catalytic and energy efficient processes. This full-time postgraduate degree comprises tutorials, lectures and six months of intensive practical work, before undertaking a five-month independent research project. As well as developing your core knowledge of green chemistry, you will learn how to critically analyse research data and research publications, and how to communicate scientific concepts and processes.
