Advanced Control and Dynamics

Students study the knowledge and skills required of a professional engineer to design advanced control systems for complex dynamical systems. The course includes advanced modules on dynamical systems and control theory and also covers the latest techniques for implementing these technologies on a range of high-performance applications.

Entry requirements

A 1st or good 2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant subject or a qualification recognised by the University as equivalent.

Course modules

Design of discrete systems; dynamics of mechanical systems; individual project; MATLAB and CAD; non-linear control; real-time signal processing; robust control. Plus 2 option modules from: high-reliability embedded systems; modelling and classification of data; systems engineering and spacecraft systems.

Assessment methods

Performance in modules is assessed by means of open and closed examination papers and a range of continuously assessed work. All MSc students are required to produce a dissertation which includes the results obtained in the individual project module.
