Embedded Systems and Control Engineering

Students study the design of embedded systems for use in control, diagnostics, monitoring and communications. Modern techniques in control system design, signal processing and software design are core elements of the course.

Entry requirements

A 1st or good 2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant subject or a qualification recognised by the University as equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: modelling and classification of data; high reliability embedded systems; robust control; MATLAB and CAD; design of discrete systems; real time digital signal processing; embedded systems for condition monitoring and control non-linear control; non-linear control; individual project.

Assessment methods

Performance in modules is assessed by means of open and closed examination papers and a range of continuously assessed work. All MSc students are required to produce a dissertation including the results obtained in the individual project module.
