Mathematics

The Diploma is intended for those students who require additional preparation in mathematics in order to gain direct entry onto a Master's programme. Having a 1st degree in a related subject, students are given the additional mathematical skills, by bridging their knowledge gap with their previous education, to allow progression onto 1 of the department's Master's degrees the following year.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent in a mathematical or finance related discipline, for example, economics, engineering, physics, finance or computer science; applicants require an A level in mathematics if exposure to mathematical modules was limited during their Honours degree.

Course modules

The modules cover areas such as probability; calculus; statistics; differential equations; linear algebra and other applied mathematics.

Assessment methods

The modules are taught using a variety of methods including lectures, seminars and computer classes. A mixture of coursework assignments, oral presentations and written examinations are used to assess the programme.
