Sustainable Management of Natural Resources
Our course produces highly qualified and highly motivated Master's graduates equipped with knowledge and understanding of a range of natural resource management subjects. Specifically, the course provides students with a multidisciplinary education and training in critical issues, philosophy and methods in contemporary natural resource management and research. The course is designed to enable course graduates to gain employment across a range of public/private agencies and research bodies, businesses, NGOs and charities that deal with the sustainable management of natural resources (including conservation, planning, and environmental management).
Normally at least a 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in a cognate discipline from an approved institution.
Course modules: sustainable management of biological resources: ecosystem and biodiversity conservation; living with environmental change; research design and methods in geography; MSC dissertation. Plus three option modules from: environmental economics; global climate and environmental change; earth observation and remote sensing; the changing water cycle; water quality processes and management; ecological and environmental assessment; biodiversity conservation and global change: tropical east Africa (the additional cost of this optional field-based module is not included in the course fee.)
Teaching is by a variety of methods including lectures, seminars, self-paced learning, directed reading and practicals. Assessment of taught modules is by a mix of coursework and examination. The MSc thesis is assessed separately.
