Sustainable Management of Natural Resources

The programme covers natural resource management subjects; students study philosophy and methods in contemporary natural resource management and research.

Entry requirements

Normally at least a 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in a cognate discipline from an approved institution.

Course modules

Core modules: research design and methods in geography; theories, concepts and applications of sustainable development; sustainable management of biological resources: ecosystem and biodiversity conservation; dissertation. Optional modules: earth observation and remote sensing; global climate and environmental change; environment, space and society; biodiversity conservation and global change: tropical east Africa; environmental economics; spaces of social change; living with environmental change; critical resource geography; ecological and environmental assessment.

Assessment methods

Assessment of taught modules is by a mix of coursework and examination. The MSc thesis is assessed separately.
