Communications, Media and Public Relations

Students study the latest research into news access and journalistic practices, and on the growth, functioning and significance of public relations in contemporary society.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree in any discipline, though a social science degree would be particularly relevant; applicants who do not have an Honours degree, but who can demonstrate other relevant qualifications and or experience are also considered.

Course modules

All years: key issues and approaches in media study; media history and social regulation; media in global context; communications and globalisation; investigating media; media industries (convergence, divergence; professional practices); audience and reception; journalism (news access and source power); critical public relations (contexts and issues).

Assessment methods

In year 1 there are 5 written assignments and 1 examination; in year 2 there are 4 written assignments and a dissertation of 12000-15000 words.
