The course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS); students spend 24 out of 36 weeks in school placements; the course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS); students spend 24 out of 36 weeks in school placements; the course aims: reflect on the purposes of learners of another language; examine theories of foreign or 2nd language acquisition; form student�s own coherent style of teaching; critically evaluate the National Curriculum and current thinking; evaluate materials and techniques for teaching and testing; create and use student�s own teaching materials; take account of the needs of different learners; investigate various methodologies; observe a range of practices.
Degree (2.1 or above preferred) with at least 50 per cent of content in subject specialism; GCSE English and mathematics grade C or above, or equivalent; interview.
Teacher development course: reflective practice; career development; professional values; options: using your voice effectively; understanding autism; teaching sport; classroom management; preparing for an interview; 2 secondary teaching placements; subject specialism: the history of foreign language teaching; communicative language teaching; GCSE specifications; teaching speaking and listening; teaching reading and writing; information communication technology (ICT) and language teaching; creativity in language teaching; lesson planning and classroom management.
Continuous assessment is used throughout the course and there are no examinations.
