Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP)

The Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP) provides students with the core competencies required for the design and delivery of effective teaching programmes in EAP, while furthering their knowledge across the range of key concepts and issues related to teaching EAP; the general teaching aims of the course are to develop the knowledge and skills required of an expert EAP practitioner; these elements are based on the competency framework used by BALEAP, the global forum for EAP professionals: academic practice: academic contexts, disciplinary practice, academic discourse, personal learning, development and autonomy; EAP students: student needs, student critical thinking, student autonomy; curriculum development: syllabus and programme development, text processing and text production; programme implementation: teaching practices, assessment practices.

Entry requirements

This course is aimed at teachers and other professionals working in the TESOL field; students should have: at least a 2nd Class Honours degree (or its equivalent from a non-UK university; GPA 3.0 or above), preferably in English language, linguistics or education, and a recognised qualification in teaching English as a foreign language, and at least 1 year�s full-time equivalent teaching experience; we also consider serving teachers if they have equivalent qualifications or qualified teacher status and significant experience; if he applicant is not a native speaker of English, they must have a proficiency level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6 in all sub-sections.
