Design

This programme gives designers the opportunity to hone their creative and professional practice by working alongside leading academics and practitioners in a dynamic and interdisciplinary studio environment. The programme offers students the creative freedom to explore their chosen discipline and develop their critical practice. Students will join an international community of leading creative practitioners and researchers with numerous opportunities to collaborate with fellow designers and build a network of industry contacts. This programme has 5 possible pathways: visual narrative; cultures and society; fashion; graphic communication; 3-dimensional innovation.

Entry requirements

A minimum 2.1 Honours degree or a long-standing professional involvement with the subject. International students will require English language at IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each element, or equivalent.

Course modules

Visual narrative pathway modules: graphic art; illustration; animation; lens-based media. Cultures and society pathway modules: creative industries; entrepreneurship; theory via practice. Fashion pathway modules: fashion design; accessories; millinery; knitwear. Graphic communication pathway modules: graphic design; interactive design; visual authorship. 3-dimensional innovation pathway modules: product; furniture; jewellery. All students complete a major practical project, along with the following modules: negotiated written study and project dissemination; research and enterprise in design.

Assessment methods

Postgraduate Certificate stage assessment is a combination of practical portfolio, presentation to peers and staff, and written research proposal. Postgraduate Diploma stage assessment is an extensive finished project and supporting portfolio of development work and a short presentation to staff and peers. Master's stage assessment is focused on two written documents; an extensive negotiated written work exploring themes relevant to studio practice and/or discipline and a further document recording dissemination of work/ideas.

Sponsorship information

All UK or EU students who hold a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree from another institution will receive a 20% reduction in tuition fees when they enrol on a University of Lincoln taught Master's programme. The scholarship is offset against tuition fee payments due for each academic year of study. Please note that the Master of Architecture (Part Two) and MBA programmes are exceptions to this scheme, as other scholarships are in place for those courses.
