Science and Environmental Journalism

This programme offers the practical and theoretical training in journalism needed by those with an interest in science and environmental issues to communicate their subject to the public. There is demand for qualified science journalists who can report on issues such as health or the environment accurately and succinctly. Students will learn how to take scientific news and turn it into engaging stories, without resorting to sensationalism or technical jargon. There are opportunities for students to work on community radio, student newspapers and magazines and to participate in our professional placement scheme. Students have worked for BBC Focus magazine, New Scientist and the Vegan Society. You may also have the opportunity to hear from leading names in the journalism industry. Previous speakers include Channel 4 Science Editor Tom Clarke, naturalist and broadcaster Chris Packham and Sense About Science founder Lord Taverne.

Sponsorship information

All UK or EU students who hold a 1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree from another institution will receive a 20% reduction in tuition fees when they enrol on a University of Lincoln taught Masters programme. The scholarship is offset against tuition fee payments due for each academic year of study. Please note that the Master of Architecture (Part 2) and MBA programmes are exceptions to this scheme, as other scholarships are in place for those courses.
