Studies in Media and Culture

This programme offers interdisciplinary encounters with some of the latest developments and trajectories in media and cultural theory. The programme seeks to provide a thorough grounding in the philosophical foundations of mediation and cultural practice and to investigate key theoretical debates reshaping this expanding and diverse field. The coherence of the programme is achieved through close connections between core modules and specialised optional modules. Students will explore various aspects of the ecological entanglements of media, reflecting the research interests of the course team. Opportunities will be presented to analyse 21st Century cultural processes and phenomena in a global context and to engage in reflexive, experimental research practice.

Entry requirements

A minimum 2.1 in a media related subject or equivalent relevant experience in a related industry. International students will require English language at IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each element, or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules include: dissertation; research practice; media ecologies; cultural analysis; media ecologies. Optional modules include: de-westernising film and cultural studies; gender, culture and media in a global context; film and television in the 21st century; the art and craft of film and television; human and inhuman in the 21st century; rethinking society for the 21st century.

Assessment methods

The bulk of the assessment will be through essays designed to assess achieved learning outcomes. In addition, there will assessed presentations and a group research project.

Sponsorship information

All UK or EU students who hold a 1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree from another institution will receive a 20% reduction in tuition fees when they enrol on a University of Lincoln taught Master's programme. The scholarship is offset against tuition fee payments due for each academic year of study. Please note that the Master of Architecture (Part 2) and MBA programmes are exceptions to this scheme, as other scholarships are in place for those courses.
