This course provides an ideal stepping stone between undergraduate study and embarking on your chosen career path. Informed by the needs of industry, this degree will help you develop the strong communication skills and can do attitude that employers are looking for. Throughout your studies, there is a focus on enhancing your skills in leadership, negotiation and influencing, presentation and self-awareness. Graduates from all disciplines will find this course a worthwhile investment and no previous experience in business and management studies is required. For those who have already studied a related discipline, this course offers the opportunity to progress your knowledge to an advanced level. Teaching includes the use of real-life case studies, enabling you to relate theory to practice across a range of business situations. You will have the opportunity to take part in workshops led by experts in business and management to complement your studies and introduce you to a range of management techniques. In addition to completing a combination of core and optional modules, you will undertake an in-depth independent study, choosing between a research-focused dissertation, a consultancy project to solve a management issue for a real client, or to start your own business. This element of the course enables you to tailor your learning to your areas of interest and career aspirations. A key feature of this course is the dedicated careers support available. Pathways available: generic; oil and gas; luxury brands; markets and consumers.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold at least a lower 2nd Class Honours degree. International students will require English language at IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in each element, or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules: corporate strategy; leadership, impact, and negotiations. Optional modules: organisational psychology; managerial finance; introduction to accounting; business economics; marketing; international entrepreneurship. Generic pathway modules: managing in emerging markets; cybermarketing or brand management. Oil and gas pathway modules: energy markets; oil and gas management. Luxury brands modules: history of luxury; brand management. Markets and consumers pathway modules: consumer behaviour; cybermarketing. A dissertation is not mandatory; students can choose a consultancy project or a start-up venture instead of a dissertation.

Assessment methods

A variety of assessment methods are utilised during this course, including essays, examinations, oral presentations and simulation games.
