Social Work

Completion of this professionally recognised programme enables students to register with the Health and Care Professions Council as a fully qualified social work practitioner. The programme provides high-quality social work education with an international perspective. It aims to develop reflective and competent social workers who can practise effectively and confidently in complex environments. The Lincoln School of Health and Social Care is endorsed by the College of Social Work as having met the social work professional quality criteria. Students will undertake 2 supervised placements in social work or care settings during their study, enabling them to apply and develop their professional knowledge, theories, values and practical skills.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree with relevant prior experience (including voluntary) in social care, education or health. This programme also requires a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade C or above including English language and Maths (or equivalent). These GCSEs must be obtained prior to submitting a UCAS application. International students will require English language at IELTS 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in each element, or equivalent. Shortlisted applicants will also have to pass screening processes in terms of professional suitability: DBS criminal record checks; health declaration; professional references. The University will pay for DBS checks.

Course modules

Modules include: theory, assessment and methods; contemporary issues in statutory social work practice; dissertation; inter-professional working; safeguarding (research informed practice).

Assessment methods

Assessments reflect the approach to teaching and the curriculum, being relevant to contemporary social work and social work practice and action. Assessment strategies include community based action projects, case studies, simulations, presentations, reflective commentaries and podcasts.

Sponsorship information

All UK or EU students who hold a 1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree from another institution will receive a 20% reduction in tuition fees when they enrol on a University of Lincoln taught Master's programme. The scholarship is offset against tuition fee payments due for each academic year of study.
