Developmental Psychology

The programme focuses mainly on the social and cognitive development of children and is designed for graduates and practising psychologists who wish to acquire a specialism in child development. Throughout this programme, students will explore issues in developmental psychology, critically evaluate them and submit their research to peer-reviewed journals.

Entry requirements

This MSc programme is open to students with at least a 2.1 at Bachelors level or an equivalent degree, or to students with a proven track record (e.g., having at least 5 years of work experience). All students are expected to at least have a basic qualification in mathematics that is equivalent to a grade 'C' at GCSE level. An interview is normally part of the admissions procedure to make sure that student expectations match course expectations. International students will require English language at IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in each element, or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: advanced qualitative and quantative research methods; forensic child psychology; introduction to qualitative and quantitative research methods; social and emotional development; theories and mechanisms in developmental psychology; Msc thesis.

Assessment methods

Assessments for this course are very diverse. For example, knowledge of theories and mechanisms in developmental psychology is assessed on the basis of a research project proposal, forensic child psychology knowledge is assessed by looking at a case study, and the thesis module is not only assessed on the basis of a paper suitable for submission to a peer reviewed journal, but also on the basis of thesis plan and thesis results presentations.

Sponsorship information

All UK or EU students who hold a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree from another institution will receive a 20% reduction in tuition fees when they enrol on a University of Lincoln taught Master's programme. The scholarship is offset against tuition fee payments due for each academic year of study.
