Social Policy

The active social policy research base in the School ensures that staff who teach on this programme are involved in current social policy debates and that students are made aware of new developments and issues in the area; each research student has an approved programme of research, supported by appropriate original research training. This programme is supported by an interdisciplinary team of experienced research supervisors who have long-standing links to industry, government, research organisations and the voluntary sector.

Entry requirements

A good relevant Honours degree. For direct enrolment to a PhD, students require a Master's degree with a research component.

Course modules

Staff have expertise for postgraduate supervision in the following: community care, housing and urban regeneration, poverty and social exclusion, social divisions (especially gender, race, disability, sexuality and age), the policy process, family policy and comparative politics.
