The programme fulfils the need for dental practitioners to have access to a higher dental degree which provides advanced clinical training in a number of dental specialities; the programme offers professional skills training and prepares candidates for the examinations of surgical Royal Colleges leading to the award of Membership in Orthodontics or further orthodontic qualifications.
Candidates should have passed the Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) or Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) examination, or an equivalent, or an Honours degree in a relevant subject. IELTS 7.5.
Year 1: Core modules: Epidemiology and statistics for public health 1; communication health promotion and clinical governance; research protocol; orthodontic patient clinical assessment; orthodontic treatment planning; orthodontic appliances a; orthodontic appliances b. Year 2: Growth modification and anchorage. Year 3: Multidisciplinary orthodontics; epidemiology and statistics for public health 1; communication, health promotion and clinical governance; research protocol; clinical research and investigation; doctoral thesis; orthodontic patient clinical assessment; orthodontic treatment planning; orthodontic appliances a; orthodontic appliances b; growth modification and anchorage; clinical practice; multidisciplinary orthodontics. Year 2 and 3: Clinical research and investigation; doctoral thesis; orthodontics speciality modules; clinical practice.
