Biomedical Engineering

This programme provides a strong background in the main facets of biomedical engineering including biomechanics, biomaterials, imaging, health economics, modelling and device design. With this background graduates will be well-equippt to contribute to industries operating in the biomedical engineering field such as medical designers and manufacturers.

Entry requirements

2.1 or higher BEng degrees in biomedical, mechanical, civil or aerospace engineering, or 2.2 or higher MEng degrees in the same field. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5 (with 6.0 in listening and writing and 5.5 in speaking and reading).

Course modules

Anatomy, physiology and biochemistry ; research skills and project planning; computer aided design; tissue engineering; musculoskeletal biomechanics; structural biomaterials; biofluid mechanics; statistics ; msc(eng) project. Optional modules; additive manufacturing; the finite element method; enterprise studies; advanced manufacturing with lasers; smart materials; health impact assessment.
