Town and Regional Planning

This taught programme is designed for graduates who want to practise overseas and don�t need an RTPI accredited qualification. Students gain a good understanding of town and regional planning and are also be able to tailor their studies to reflect their needs and interests, in consultation with the programme director. 3 pathways are available: pathway A (spatial planning), pathway B (urban design) and pathway C (spatial modelling).

Entry requirements

2.1 Honours degree or above in town planning; or a related discipline (geography; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; and estates management). All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language, qualifications accepted include GCSE English; A-level English language; IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component); TOEFL iBT 88 or above with minimum scores in components as follows: listening and writing 21, reading 22, speaking 23.

Course modules

Core modules: Theory power and ethics; dissertation MCD/MA/MSc planning. Pathway A (spatial planning): Trends, outcomes and impacts; making plans. Pathway B (urban design): Advanced urban design 1; advanced urban design 2. Pathway C (spatial modelling): Trends, outcomes and impacts; geographical information systems; spatial analysis. Optional modules (choices vary depending on pathway): Spatial planning challenges; making places; techniques in environmental planning and management; urban and regional regeneration; geographical information systems; implementing and managing change; spatial planning in action; environmental planning and management project; urban and regional regeneration project; theory power and ethics; trends, outcomes and impacts; making plans; planning and property development.
