Town and Regional Planning

Students learn about the social, economic and environmental challenges planners face, whilst becoming familiar with planning tools, methods and how they can be applied to particular planning contexts. Pathways include: spatial planning, urban design and spatial modelling.

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirement for all our postgraduate programmes is a good first degree (2.1) or above, in a related area from an approved university or equivalent; applications from those with non traditional qualifications and relevant work experience are also welcomed and are considered on their individual merits; applications from international students are welcome; international qualifications are evaluated in line with the National Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) guidelines; all applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language, and are required to provide evidence of this; IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component); TOEFL iBT 88 or above with minimum scores in components as follows: Listening and Writing 21, Reading - 22, Speaking 23; International Baccalaureate Standard Level 5 Hong Kong use of English AS level C; INDIA Standard XII 70% or above from Central and Metro State Boards; WAEC C4-6.

Course modules

Core modules: Spatial planning challenges; theory power and ethics; implementing and managing change; trends, outcomes and impacts; spatial planning in action; dissertation MCD/MA/MSc planning.
Pathway A (spatial planning): Making places; making plans.
Pathway B (urban design): Advanced urban design 1; advanced urban design 2.
Pathway C (spatial modelling): Geographical information systems; spatial analysis.
