Environment and Climate Change

This course focuses on the natural and anthropogenic processes which have contributed to contemporary environmental problems and which threaten to transform our environment. The emphasis is on techniques for reconstructing, monitoring and predicting environmental change. The course has a strong practical component, and incorporates a dissertation.

Entry requirements

The normal requirement for entry on to a taught programme is a good 2.1 or equivalent Honours degree in a relevant field of study. Individual consideration is given to mature students with significant and relevant experience and with professional qualifications. All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language, and are required to provide evidence of this. Qualifications accepted include GCSE English; GCE O level English. IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component). TOEFL iBT 88 or above with minimum scores in components as follows: listening and writing 21, reading 22, speaking 23.

Course modules

Core modules: Introduction to environment and climate change; human impacts on environments; tackling environmental issues; climate processes and variability; project design and management; laboratory methods and techniques in environmental reconstructions; dissertation - MSc environmental sciences; optional modules: geohazards and risk mitigation; politics of the environment.
